The proprietor, (Alan Silverwood) is a highly experienced licensed floor sanding trade contractor, QBSA No. 530075.
Heritage Floors offers a total service in this field, and also offers hire floor sanding machines for those homeowners who wish to "Do it Themselves" (full training and professional equipment is available for short or long term hire)
The finishes available for coating newly sanded floors has come along way since the "old days' when only a limited number of products were available to the homeowner. Now as we become more aware of the inherent dangers of "Toxic" chemicals and their possible long term health concerns, Heritage Floors only used "environmentally friendly" waterborne finishes and some "Tung-Oil" coatings. Due to the risks to the floor sander/finisher and the people in the building at the time of painting, it is very important the toxic fumes are not inhaled. Even after these types of coatings have dried there is still a risk due to the chemicals still being in the floor and these will become airborne in the wood dust if the floor is sanded much later.
To avoid these long term problems, Heritage Floors decided not to use these old (2 pack) which are still available in the hardware store,
many countries throughout the world have now banned the use of these products which contain dangerous amounts of harmful chemicals like free isocyanates.
With new technology and the demand for healthier homes, the manufacturing companies that produce floor finishes have developed some great products. The only downside of these new coatings is that they don't have a really "High Gloss" at present.........
But this is not really a problem, because most floors look better with a "Satin" or "Matt" finish. There are some finishes that don't have any sheen at all - but they have a tough coating that is almost invisibile. Another advantage of these coatings is that the don't "yellow" with age.
